John C. Cummings

A graduate of the University of British Columbia, he received a master's degree from the Yale University School of Forestry and a PhD in genetics from UC Berkeley. He organized the first Earth Day at Cal and was instrumental in forming an interdisciplinary environmental studies program at that campus. Throughout his life, he gave back to others as a teacher and researcher at the university level and as an environmental consultant to the City of Santa Rosa, as well as in the efforts he made to imporve natural areas in Sonoma County.
